Overview

Skilled GMAW Welder/Fabricator to execute the precision assembly of custom stair-lift systems. This role involves the layout, fitting, and sequential positioning of weldments both with and without the use of fixtures. You will work directly from technical prints and job layouts, utilizing precision measuring tools to verify critical alignments. Proficiency in metal finishing is required to meet both mechanical specifications and smooth, cosmetic requirements. All work is subject to first and final-piece inspections to ensure 100% accuracy in dimension and aesthetic finish.

Responsibilities

  • Perform GMAW and fabrication welding assignments to meet daily production while maintaining standards of quality and quantity.
  • Set up and operate welding machines. Routine maintenance to ensure peak performance and safety.
  • Read measuring tools, including, but not limited to, tape measures, squares, dial calipers, and digital protractors.
  • Operate hand/air tools and electric grinders. Cut, grind, and clean surfaces to ensure optimal weld penetration and finish.
  • Read, interpret, and fulfill work instructions and understand AWS welding symbols from blueprints.
  • Weld Tube to Flat Bar Web per print using a MIG Welder and other fabrication tools while maintaining dimensions and angle tolerances per print.
  • Quality Self-Inspection confirming angles and dimensions throughout fabrication. Report any deviations to the supervisor.
  • Identify and obtain accurate welding fixtures as called out by the work order.
  • Enter production data into Epicor (ERP) manufacturing software as necessary.
  • Support Training and Development activities as necessary.
  • Count and verify weldment ID Number; enter data into computer software to create paint tag for final operation.
  • Communicate shortages, scrap, delays, and any deviation from standard work to the supervisor when applicable.
  • Perform additional work as needed, including, but not limited to, tube cleaning, de-nesting, deburring parts, miscellaneous fabrication, testing, and more.
  • Promote and support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities in Manufacturing.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • High school or general education degree (GED) required. 
  • Minimum 1 year of welding experience or equivalent advanced education required.
  • Previous experience with fabrication or fit-up of a custom product.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Complete standardized written documentation and correspondence. 
  • Professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations. 
  • Ability to perform basic electronic tasks using computer software and Microsoft Office.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Environment is a modern production facility with heat and air conditioning
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to stand; use arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate the welding gun and hold fabrication parts in place. Also required to use hand grinders and other fabrication tools.
  • The job requires repetitive use of a GMAW welding gun at shoulder level or below
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand on an elevated step or ladder while performing the duties of this job

  • Ability to stand, walk, squat, kneel, bend, twist and reach while performing the duties of this job
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, regularly
  • Ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds, intermittently

  • Ability to physically relocate product throughout the day, regularly
  • The employee is required to reach and climb occasionally
