Overview

Oversees daily operations within the machining, press brakes, laser, and saw work areas to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role is responsible for planning and prioritizing work orders, coordinating labor and equipment resources, and ensuring adherence to engineering specifications, production schedules, and quality standards. The supervisor leads, trains, and supports production staff, driving continuous improvement, reducing downtime, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Additionally, the position collaborates closely with engineering, maintenance, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve issues, optimize workflow, and meet customer delivery expectations. The supervisor is also responsible for supporting company policies and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and mentor personnel to meet department goals.
  • Schedule department workflow to maintain established levels of quality and quantity of product
  • Monitor employee performance to ensure labor standard compliance.
  • Communicate machine down-time, scheduling, inventory, or quality concerns and shipment delays to the manufacturing plant manager. (Propose recovery plan for approval)
  • Propose strategic and tactical direct labor and equipment plans to support operational metrics and sales goals (Propose data to support capital acquisitions)
  • Utilize problem solving techniques in daily work decisions to reduce daily work shortfalls and minimize rework activities
  • Promote Lean Manufacturing practices with emphasis on continuous improvements: Eliminate waste, improve delivered product quality, propose cost and labor initiatives
  • Project management: responsible for facilitating and completing departmental or corporate projects.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating team members through the use of 5S methodology
  • Order tools and supplies necessary for daily work within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and monitor the scrap of the department
  • Open/close production facility as scheduled

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Associate’s degree in business or related field and 2 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in supervising personnel is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field is preferred.

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a machining or fabricating environment is required.

 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Read, analyze, and interpret a variety of information, such as technical procedures, business correspondence, and governmental regulations furnished in written, oral or diagram form. 
  • Create business-level written correspondence and verbally present information to internal and external customers. 
  • Requires job related software skills, MS Office and the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment. 

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Modern production facility with heat and air conditioning
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to stand, sit, walk; use hands and fingers, talk and hear
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds routinely
  • Ability to lift 31 pounds to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds with assistance occasionally
