  • Team Captain – Welding (2nd Shift) - $2.50/hour for 2nd Shift

    2:30PM to 12:00am Monday - Friday & two Saturdays per month.
  • Overview

    The responsibility of a Team Captain is to assist in meeting daily targeted goals as outlined by the Team Leader.  Coordinate the daily operations through assigning, monitoring and reviewing accuracy of team members’ work and providing technical guidance.  Approximately 70% of time will be spent performing many of the same duties as the team members.  Team captains will lead and direct a team of one or more team members.


    • Train, coach, and develop team members through the use of Job Instruction Sheets to ensure standard work is followed. Responsible to train team members in accordance with TWI standard work practices

    • Arrange staffing in cells to meet daily work; communicate vision of daily production targets
    • Ensure team members have the correct tools to complete their daily tasks and assure they are in good working condition
    • Responsible for team members’ accuracy of work
    • Initiate daily work improvements through Training Within Industries methodologies
    • Monitor processes, materials, or surroundings reviewing information from; materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess issues or possible problems
    • Promote a safe work environment
    • Cultivate an environment of respect and give prompt feedback to team members’ ideas
    • Cultivate a Lean culture providing team members the opportunity for continual improvements
    • Maintain professional communication and provide constructive feedback to staff
    • Provide notification of company policy violations to your team leader
    • Conduct daily 5S audits and promote 5-S initiatives
    • Knowledge of set up and operation of welding machines
    • Table fabrication duties include: measure and weld the angle degree according to print with sections of material
    • Read measuring tools (tape measure, square, dial calipers, digital protractor)
    • Operate hand/air tools and electric grinders
    • Read and interpret work instructions and AWS welding symbols from blueprints
    • Perform MIG,TIG or fabrication welding assignments to meet daily production while maintaining standards of quality and quantity
    • Angle change duties: Measure and weld the angle degree according to print with sections of material cut on saw during previous operation
    • Build duties: Roll form material when required for large radius jobs (standard rolled turns will be provided by designated employees); assemble angle change, straight sections and turn to print using a MIG Welder and other fabrication tools while maintaining dimension and angle tolerances; form flanges and gear rack and install according to print
    • Confirm angles and dimensions during fabrication and report any deviations to supervisor
    • Identify and obtain accurate welding fixtures as called by work order
    • Count and verify weldment ID Number; enter data into computer software to create paint tag for final operation
    • Communicate shortages, scrap, delays and any deviation of standard work to the supervisor when applicable
    • Complete daily timesheet and paperwork
    • Support daily work improvements through Training Within Industries methodologies
    • Maintain D1.1 welding certification. This applies to welders who complete welding operations that require D1.1 certification


    Education and Experience:  

    • High School diploma (GED) with 2 years’ work experience in a related field and 1 year experience leading personnel. 
    • Qualified applicant must possess experience with the Curve Rail Elevator fabrication process, production scheduling, training and inventory accuracy. 
    • Lean Manufacturing principles a plus. 


    Skills and Abilities: 

    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
    • Perform written documentation and correspondence. 
    • Professionally communicate one-on-one and in groups. 
    • Ability to perform tasks using computer software and Microsoft Office. 


    Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

    • Modern production facility with heat and air conditioning
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to stand, sit, walk; use hands and fingers, talk and hear
    • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly
    • Ability to lift over 30 pounds occasionally
