  • Overview

    Direct, and lead, all welding related activities, focusing on safety, quality, delivery and staff development.  Utilize established procedures and processes to plan, schedule and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill work orders, meet inventory accuracy requirements and deliver manufactured products.  Serve as transformational leader to mentor and guide team to deliver on organizational goals and objectives.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide direct supervision to Team Leaders insuring achievement of departmental goals and objectives
    • Identify and troubleshoot any production issues, applying root cause analysis and methodical problem solving skills
    • Investigate production delays, and initiate necessary corrective actions to assure consistency of production levels
    • Research and identify the future state of technology for welding operations
    • Promote continuous improvement initiatives to provide consistent focus on error proofing and reduced operational expenses 
    • Provide staff leadership development to Team Leaders and Team Captains
    • Identify and manage departmental projects
    • Utilize data driven processes to achieve key performance objectives
    • Manage departmental staffing, performance, labor and overtime metrics
    • Partner with Human Resources on employee relations issues, policy administration, hiring  onboarding, and retention
    • Maintain AWS D-1.1 certifications and all certifications as they apply to industry standards.
    • Develop the annual budget for department
    • Manage capital assets through preventive maintenance program
    • Incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel. (5S)
    • Facilitate monthly meetings with staff to communicate and receive feedback on safety, goals, metrics and initiatives

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:  Bachelor Degree in related field and broad technical and administrative experience in a welding environment, plus a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience required.  Candidates should have proven experience establishing and implementing welding process and method improvements. Certified weld inspector (CWI) and / or welding supervisor certification (WSC) a plus.

     

    Additionally candidates should possess experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and possess the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, well-reasoned, independent thought. Candidates should also have familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.   Experience with lean manufacturing and Kan Ban inventory systems is a plus.

     

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Read, analyze, and interpret reports and legal documents. 
    • Write articles at publication level that conform to prescribed style and format. 
    • Effectively present information to employees, management, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
    • Requires job related software skills, MS Office and the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment. 

     

    Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

    • Environment is a modern production facility with heat and air conditioning with office on shop floor
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to ambulate and use hands and fingers   
    • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
