  • Overview

    The Production Planner is responsible for supporting and improving customer service levels (on time delivery and lead time) while maintaining lowest practical inventory level. This role is responsible for coordinating and expediting the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to daily and weekly production schedules. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules, conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates, monitoring inventory levels, and solving production problems. Coordinate and work with operations, quality, engineering, etc. to ensure on-time delivery by monitoring manufactured items to proactively identify and address any issues. Support the seamless interaction of purchasing and materials management to resolve gaps between supply capabilities and production plans.


    • Possess knowledge of product, component and material identities, manufacturing procedures and related inventory levels.
    • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for operations to assist in the resolution of order promising situations, customer delivery difficulties and demand versus supply conflicts.
    • Prepare requisitions, orders and other documents for purchasing or requisitioning new or additional stock items to maintain levels of inventory and other factors pertinent to production to maintain uninterrupted flow of work and assure shipping commitments are met
    • Coordinate production workflow by releasing daily work.
    • Compile inventory records and information such as consumption rate, characteristics of items in storage, and current market conditions to determine stock supply and need for replenishment.
    • Monitor and implement engineering change introduction and product phase-out projects.
    • Coordinate pick-up and deliveries with Suppliers and Receiving department
    • Present information and respond to questions from groups of peers and supervisors.
    • Support inventory accuracy / cycle counting as necessary.
    • Carry out other projects as requested by immediate supervisor.


    Education and Experience:

    • Associates Degree and one year or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
    • Working knowledge of Kanban and Lean preferred.
    • APICS Certification preferred. MRP system knowledge a plus.


    Skills and Abilities: 

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple activities simultaneously, performing efficiently and with a very high degree of accuracy in a complex and fast paced operations environment.
    • Ability to evaluate situations objectively and demonstrate the ability to make decisions that are intended to have a positive impact on work performance or area and the total business.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments in order to complete them on time.
    • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems.
    • Make suggestions for improvement in areas of cost reduction, processes, quality and productivity.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or touch; and talk and hear.
